Beverage Kegerator Prototype Design

Johnston Engineering helped to design and deliver a specialized kegerator device meant to be used as a consumer product and in restaurants.

The SquareKeg is a CO2-infused, on-tap portable keg. Its patented, space-saving design allows you to conveniently store on-tap beverages in your fridge at home, or in coolers for on-the-go. The innovative keg design keeps your beverage cool and carbonated and fits conveniently all the way to the back of your fridge for efficient space utilization.

Since the successful prototype testing, and design for manufacturing, SquareKeg is being mass manufactured and sold all over the U.S. In November of 2022, SquareKeg was featured on NBC's Shark Tank where they received an offer from Mr. Wonderful himself, Kevin O'Leary. We couldn't be more proud to witness the success of this product on the market.

Our Contribution:

Johnston Engineering provided the prototype design, engineering, structural analysis and testing of the original SquareKeg: SquareOne which is now being sold all over the world.

3D CAD files were generated in SOLIDWORKS and reviewed with the customer to ensure the proper design intent was met. The end result was a sleek, modern stainless steel one gallon kegerator. The design allows the keg to reach the back of the refrigerator, maximizing the amount of liquid able to be stored, while not overcrowding the fridge because it only requires 6" of width. The flat top is much more convenient in your fridge compared to a round growler because you can stack items on top. Unlike a growler that goes flat as soon as you pour your first beverage, the built in CO2 system maintains the set pressure so you always have the perfect head and carbonation.

The SquareOne is formed out of stainless steel and then robotically welded. Once welding, the assembly is leak tested, passivated, and cleaned before it is boxed and shipped to customers.
