POSITION:  Senior Mechanical Engineer

We are seeking a senior-level mechanical engineer who shares these values and is committed to delivering high-quality work.


Job Description:   We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer with at least 15 years of experience in the field and 10 years of experience in SolidWorks. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of managing complex engineering projects and a strong understanding of engineering analysis.


Responsibilities:

  • Manage multiple engineering projects simultaneously from start to finish, including design, prototyping, testing, and production.
  • Utilize SolidWorks to create 3D models and 2D drawings of mechanical components.
  • Conduct engineering analysis to ensure product performance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including marketing, sales, other engineering disciplines and manufacturing to ensure project success.
  • Stay current with industry trends and advancements, continuously improving engineering processes.
  • Some hands-on assembly of new prototypes.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor's of Science in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 10+ years of 3D CAD design experience, ideally in SolidWorks.
  • 15+ years of experience as a mechanical engineer.
  • Strong understanding of engineering analysis principles including experience in structural and/or thermal FEA.
  • Project management experience.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Act as technical lead for a team of mechanical engineers and designers to mentor them on technical and professional development objectives.
  • Able to work full time in our offices in Spokane, WA. No remote work.


Preferred Skills:

  • Experience using ANSYS for thermal and structural FEA and CFD
  • Knowledge of multiple manufacturing processes such as the design of machined parts, weldments, sheet metal parts, surfacing, design for injection molding, composites, automation, prototyping and mass production.
  • Hands-on prototype assembly and test.
  • Understanding of GD&T is a plus.
  • Able to handle small amounts of travel to customer sites to assist in all aspects of the project development and delivery.


Job Type: Full-Time, in-office (non-remote)


Schedule: 9 hours days, Monday - Friday, with every other Friday off.


Work a hybrid “9/80 schedule”: 9-hour day schedule on a two 2-week cycle. Monday - Thursday are 9-hour days with Friday being an 8-hour day. Then the following Friday is an “off Friday” for an additional 26 non-working days per year.

We are seeking an experienced Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Engineer who shares these values and is committed to delivering high-quality work..


Job Description: We are seeking a highly skilled CFD Engineer with 10+ years of experience in computational fluid dynamics, particularly using ANSYS software. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in setting up, running, and post-processing fluid simulations..


Responsibilities:

  • Conduct CFD simulations with ANSYS, including:
  • Steady state and transient simulations
  • Moving mesh studies.
  • Multi-phase flows (boiling, condensation, entrained solids).
  • Chemical reaction modeling.
  • Turbulence modeling.
  • Interpret and analyze simulation results to provide actionable insights.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate simulation results into design iterations.
  • Hardware modification suggestions based on study results. SolidWorks modeling experience (preferred).
  • Perform thermal and structural finite element analysis (FEA) as needed.
  • Document methods, assumptions, and results in detailed technical reports.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in CFD with ANSYS software.
  • Strong expertise in fluid flow, heat transfer, and advanced physics modeling.
  • Some experience designing mechanical components and systems in 3D CAD.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work full-time, in-office, in Spokane, WA. This is not a remote position. 


Preferred Skills:

  • 5+ years of experience in thermal and structural FEA with ANSYS software.
  • Ability to set up and analyze studies involving moving meshes, multi-phase flow, combustion and chemical reactions.
  • Experience in developing custom thermal and fluid system models for energy, carbon capture, or hydrogen applications.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, including the design of machined parts, weldments, and sheet metal components.
  • Hands-on prototype assembly and testing experience.


Job Type: Full-Time, in-office (non-remote)

POSITION: Mechanical SolidWorks Designer

Johnston Engineering, a growing product development engineering company located in Spokane, WA, is seeking a creative and knowledgeable mechanical SOLIDWORKS designer. Johnston Engineering designs and builds products, devices and machines. We work in multiple industries including clean tech, energy storage, battery and electronics cooling and packaging, medical and dental devices, automotive, automation, consumer products, firearms, and more. 


Primary Function: Design parts and assemblies, generation of drawings, model updates, redlines, and generation of BOMs. Occasional prototype build and test.


Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to multiple engineering projects simultaneously, including design, prototyping, testing, and production.
  • Utilize SolidWorks to create 3D models and 2D drawings of mechanical components.
